Two Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation branches in Alabama partnered with the American Warrior Initiative (AWI) to honor a local U.S. veterans group with a grant. The Montgomery and Enterprise branches also each hosted a residential housing “Boot Camp” to train real estate professionals and mortgage planners on how to excellently handle the home purchase needs of active duty military members and veterans.
America’s Heroes Enjoying Recreation Outdoors (AHERO) is an incredible organization that is organized and operated by OIF and OEF Marine Corps and Army veterans. The mission of AHERO is connecting veterans through outdoor activities so they can recover from physical wounds and psychological trauma as well as reintegrate with American life. Hundreds of veterans have attended AHERO events and received help and healing. By combining the donations from the events in the two Alabama cities, Fairway and AWI were able to honor AHERO with a grant of $16,000.
Enterprise, Alabama branch manager Keith Simon was so happy to have been a part of this event.
“We are a Fairway branch that is tied very closely to the military, being so close to Fort Rucker — the home of Army aviation — and with me being a veteran myself,” Simon said. “The AWI event in Enterprise, Alabama was a truly humbling experience, and the passion that (AWI co-founders) Louise Thaxton and Sean Parnell have for our veteran community made an impact with the Realtors that attended, and we were able to raise money for ‘America’s Heroes Enjoying Recreation Outdoors,’ or ‘AHERO.’”
“The event held in Montgomery was truly outstanding and moving,” Kermish said. “We helped out a local group that works with vets suffering from PTSD. At the end of the program, one of the Realtors approached me and shared that her nephew hardly gets out of bed after his last deployment to Afghanistan. She said that without our AWI event, she would never have known that there was help in our area. Louise and Sean are amazing. A Realtor who is a Vietnam vet said they need to be on television!”
The American Warrior Initiative is a non-profit organization sponsored by Fairway Independent Mortgage. The AWI seeks to ease U.S. veterans’ transition from military to civilian life.
